Garador are now Compton’s new garage door supplier, detailed below are some reasons why the new range is better.

Manufactured in the UK at a state of the art facility, our new garage doors are better than before and include the following features:

·          Single garage doors are 50mm thick and stronger than previous.

·          Double garage doors are 80mm thick and are significantly stronger than previous.

·          The steel side frame jambs provide a superior stiffness to the front post connection, have rubber edge buffers to reduce door edge damage and recess the door from the face of the front posts.

·          The gear kits are much simpler and only contain coloured steel jambs, the lock pack and four-point latching if applicable. The springs and latching rods are cable tied to the door, specific to size.

·          The spring tensioning is improved with greater adjustment and added safety features included.

·          The interior and exterior handles have both been improved.

·          A quality paint finish requiring no further treatment.

Powder Coating

Our steel garage doors are a finished product.  They are a powder coated paint finish and therefore do not require re-painting.

Colour options

We are now able to offer a choice of powder coated steel door colours.  The dark brown finish is available on horizontal, vertical or Georgian.  In addition to brown, we are now able to offer black, green, blue, red and dark blue colours.

Single Door Gear

Up & over garage doors up to 10’ wide are supplied with single door gear and colour co-ordinated steel side jambs 38mm thick.  Four-point latching is supplied as standard.  The clearance height on 6’6” high models is 1816mm (5’11½”) and on 7’ high models is 1968mm (6ft5½”).

Double Door Gear

Up & over doors over 10ft wide are supplied with double door gear, colour co-ordinated steel side jambs 68mm thick and 51mm (2 inch) steel head frame.  Four-point latching is not available.  The clearance height on 6’6” high models is 1778mm (5’10”) and on 7’ high models 1930mm (6’4”).

Standard, High or Super High

As well as consideration to what size garage you will need, you should also be thinking about what you wish to store in your garage and whether one of our higher garages may be what you need.

For example take our Apex Spar garage range:

The standard Apex Spar with an eaves height of 1.98m (6’6”) and a door clearance height of 1.83m (6’0”) is fine for a standard car and with the ridge height ranging from 2.26m (7’5”) to 2.74m (9’0”) depending on the size your require you will have a good workspace and most people will find adequate headroom to use the space as you wish.

The Apex Spar High garage range:

With an eaves height of 2.13m (7’0”) and a door clearance height of 2.01m (6’7”) the Apex High garage may be the best option for those who have a small 4×4 or an MPV.  With the ridge height from 2.49m (8’2”) to 2.90m (9’6”) depending on the garage size you can also use the extra space for working with taller equipment on larger projects.

The Apex Spar Super High garage range:

This is the tallest garage Compton can provide from the Apex range with an eaves height of 2.44m (8’0”) a door clearance height of 2.39m (7’10”) and a ridge height from 2.81m (9′2″) to 3.21m (10′6″) depending on the garage size, this height of garage would be great for people who have the largest 4×4’s or if you want to use your garage to work on a kit car or classic car as you would have room to use ramps and safely work under the car.

Automatic garage doors

The pros of automatic garage doors are obvious; you can open and close them remotely. You can open the door while sitting comfortably in your car, which is nice when the weather is bad, this will also be beneficial to the elderly who may have trouble operating the door.  Once inside the garage you can lock the door just as easily as you can lock the manual kind too.

The Compton Autolift automatic door opener is suitable for all our up-and-over doors, the expert installation takes a short time. Compton Auto-lift comes complete with two remote control senders (more available if required) and a timed courtesy light to allow you to step out of your car into an illuminated garage.

You are also provided with a wall mounted switch that can be a convenient way to operate your door opener from within your garage, just like a light switch. A key protected manual override can be fitted to the garage door to enable manual operation from outside the garage.

Fitting an automatic door opener usually requires modifications to the garage roof structure. Your Compton Auto-lift will be fitted by our expert fitters using approved apparatus and will not invalidate your Compton 10-year structural guarantee.

The Auto-lift opener includes a 2 year guarantee against breakdown and technical or material faults. Extended guarantee covers the motor for a further 3 years – 5 in total.

Garage roofs make a difference

The roof of a concrete garage can transform the garage’s appearance.  Three different roof pitches are available from the leading manufacturers.

A flat or pent roof is usually the most cost effective option and sees the industry leaders using vandal resistant, full length fromt to back galvanised steel sheets with no joins to leak.  These sheets are treated with an anti condensation coating that reduces the possibility of condensation damaging the garage contents.  A flat or pent roof has a slight slope to enable water to run off to the rear.

An Apex roof offers significantly more choice.  Being Apex in shape, this roof pitch is more visible and enables water to run off to either side.  Fibre cement roof sheets are typically used that are attached to steel roof trusses.  Apex roof options include painted roof sheets in a choice of colours to complement your home.  Translucent roof sheets can also be fitted in Apex roofs to allow light to flood in.

The Banbury roof pitch is a steeper 25 degree roof that looks more traditional.  As standard, these steeper roof pitches feature granular steel roof sheets.  Guaranteed for up to 40 years, the granular steel roof sheets are available in a choice of 6 colours and are more durable yet just as attractive as traditional roof tiles.  These garage roofs are a traditional, fully lined roof with felt and batten construction.

Garages to suit you

Garages are now used as multi purpose buildings suitable for so many different things and used by so many different people.  This isn’t surprising when you see the amount of choice available from concrete sectional garages.

Prefabricated in nature, such garages are ideal for meeting multiple requirements as they can be configured in different ways rather than a rigid one type fits all policy.  A concrete garage can be wide or narrow, short or long, low or high, with a flat, apex or more traditional pitched roof and that is just for starters.

Once the size and shape is sorted then the style can be worked on to make this functional space look nice!  There is a massive choice of doors, both garage doors and personnel (side) acces doors - these are mostly available in steel (although cedar is a viable alternative) in various different finishes as well as different colours - choices include horizontal or vertical ribs, Georgian style or a wood grain effect.

A similar choice awaits with fascias.  Most garages include a timber fascia as standard, but upgrades are available to PVCu, woodgrain or cedar fascias.

The latest concrete garage industry initiatives surround the finishes available.  Long gone are the days when the spar pebble dash finish was the only choice.  Now garages are available in brick finishes or textured finishes in addition to the spar finish.

There is so much choice available, but one thing that never changes is that due to the many ways you can personalise your garage, there will be one that is right for you.

Motorcycle garages solve bike theft problem

April 23, 2010

It was recently reported in The Sunday Times that North London is the area of the country with the highest risk of theft of motorcycles, with four times the national average of claims.  Several other London areas as well as Halifax, Manchester and Aberdeen also suffer from high rates of theft.

The Home Office says about 25 motorcycles are stolen each year for every 1000 bikes registered.  As the recovery rate is only 32% which is half that for cars a Compton concrete motorcycle garage may just be the answer to help protect your bike and give you piece of mind.

Brick Garages

Brick garages can be expensive and the process of finding a traditional builder or brick layer you can trust followed by weeks of dirsuption is something that can prevent a new brick garage building project from going ahead.  However, there is a solution to this problem that provides the look of a real brick garage together with the convenience of choosing a concrete garage.

The answer to this problem is provided by Compton Buildings - the UK’s leading supplier of concrete sectional garages and buildings.  There are 2 solutions available, the first and most effective brick immitation is the Premier Brick garage range that is applied once the prefabricated garage has been installed.  This is a joint free coating making it hard for anyone to realise that they are not looking at a real brick garage.

The 2nd option is cheaper and available in a choice of roof pitches (Flat, Apex or the more traditional Banbury) and it’s a simulated brick pattern cut into the concrete panels at the factory that is then installed at a customer’s address with the joins between panels hidden with cover strips.

Both brick garage alternatives are significantly cheaper than traditional build, are not so dependant on the weather and are installed more rapidly.  Another majpr advantage is the 10-year guarantee from a company that has been in existance for over 50 years meaning if anything were to go wrong it would be fixed at no cost to the customer.

New Concrete Garage Order Process

March 18, 2010
Posted in Garages — Written by Neil

With thousands of garages built in the 1960s and 1970s coming to the ends of their lives, many people with these eye-sores need help.  This is when your local concrete garages agent comes to the rescue.

Concrete garages agents typically have a display of modern concrete garages for you to view, so you can see how good a brand new concrete garage looks compared to many of the old, derilict garages that are sitting down the bottom of many gardens in the UK.

As well as an impressive display of concrete garages, your local agent will also be able to offer a host of services as and when required.  These include a free site survey, removal of old garages including timber framed asbestos, laying a new concrete base, advising on the best new building to choose, arranging delivery & installation of your new building with the concrete garage manufacturer and ensuring your new concrete sectional garage is problem free.

So, for anyone unsure how to go about replacing an old garage, their first point of call should be their local concrete garages agent.  Once the order for a brand new garage is placed with them, they will send it through to the concrete garage manufacturer who will take payment and program the new garage for delivery and installaton.  The lead times are typically 4 or 5 weeks giving time for a new base to be laid or an old base to be prepared and full details of base requirements will be sent together with the order acknowledgement.

The new garage will then be delivered on a large lorry and offloaded by forklift onto your pre-prepared concrete base.  A seperate installation team will then arrive to install your new garage with the delivery lorry moving on to deliver the other garages on its load.

If there are any problems with your new concrete garage, the installers are likely to have noticed and reported any problem back to the manufacturer.  However, your garage will have a 10-year guarantee so the manufacturer can be contacted at any point within that time and will be prepared to rectify any issues.  Details of your guarantee, care & maintenance instructions and a feedback form will be sent out the day after installation.  With the opportunity to earn £££s by recommending your friends & family sent out shortly afterwards.

Concrete Garages - time for a Spring Clean

March 15, 2010
Posted in Garages — Written by Neil

More often than not, concrete garages are no longer home to your car. The valuable extra storage space a new garage brings tends to be used almost immediately to store all those things cluttering up the house, that may come in handy at some point.

During winter time your garage may become home for garden furniture, such as benches, tables and chairs, along with the barbecue that only sees light of day on those scorching summer afternoons. Maybe, it’s used as storage for camping equipment, bicycles, scooters or other children’s toys. As well as these things, your garage in winter time might house all your summer sports equipment - your cricket gear, golf clubs, surf board etc.

With the days getting longer and the weather warmer it’s a sure sign that Spring is here. So, why not spring clean your garage? You may well find things you thought were lost years ago as well as deciding to throw things out that are now beyond use. This should help create enough space for all the things you will buy this summer that will need somewhere to go in the winter months.

To help you keep your garage tidy make sure you consider the shelf options priovided by Compton Buildings that don’t require drilling into the concrete panels. The Shelf Pack and Shelf Stack are available in various lengths and can help keep clutter off your concrete garage floor.
