Standard, High or Super High

As well as consideration to what size garage you will need, you should also be thinking about what you wish to store in your garage and whether one of our higher garages may be what you need.

For example take our Apex Spar garage range:

The standard Apex Spar with an eaves height of 1.98m (6’6”) and a door clearance height of 1.83m (6’0”) is fine for a standard car and with the ridge height ranging from 2.26m (7’5”) to 2.74m (9’0”) depending on the size your require you will have a good workspace and most people will find adequate headroom to use the space as you wish.

The Apex Spar High garage range:

With an eaves height of 2.13m (7’0”) and a door clearance height of 2.01m (6’7”) the Apex High garage may be the best option for those who have a small 4×4 or an MPV.  With the ridge height from 2.49m (8’2”) to 2.90m (9’6”) depending on the garage size you can also use the extra space for working with taller equipment on larger projects.

The Apex Spar Super High garage range:

This is the tallest garage Compton can provide from the Apex range with an eaves height of 2.44m (8’0”) a door clearance height of 2.39m (7’10”) and a ridge height from 2.81m (9′2″) to 3.21m (10′6″) depending on the garage size, this height of garage would be great for people who have the largest 4×4’s or if you want to use your garage to work on a kit car or classic car as you would have room to use ramps and safely work under the car.

Automatic garage doors

The pros of automatic garage doors are obvious; you can open and close them remotely. You can open the door while sitting comfortably in your car, which is nice when the weather is bad, this will also be beneficial to the elderly who may have trouble operating the door.  Once inside the garage you can lock the door just as easily as you can lock the manual kind too.

The Compton Autolift automatic door opener is suitable for all our up-and-over doors, the expert installation takes a short time. Compton Auto-lift comes complete with two remote control senders (more available if required) and a timed courtesy light to allow you to step out of your car into an illuminated garage.

You are also provided with a wall mounted switch that can be a convenient way to operate your door opener from within your garage, just like a light switch. A key protected manual override can be fitted to the garage door to enable manual operation from outside the garage.

Fitting an automatic door opener usually requires modifications to the garage roof structure. Your Compton Auto-lift will be fitted by our expert fitters using approved apparatus and will not invalidate your Compton 10-year structural guarantee.

The Auto-lift opener includes a 2 year guarantee against breakdown and technical or material faults. Extended guarantee covers the motor for a further 3 years – 5 in total.

Garage roofs make a difference

The roof of a concrete garage can transform the garage’s appearance.  Three different roof pitches are available from the leading manufacturers.

A flat or pent roof is usually the most cost effective option and sees the industry leaders using vandal resistant, full length fromt to back galvanised steel sheets with no joins to leak.  These sheets are treated with an anti condensation coating that reduces the possibility of condensation damaging the garage contents.  A flat or pent roof has a slight slope to enable water to run off to the rear.

An Apex roof offers significantly more choice.  Being Apex in shape, this roof pitch is more visible and enables water to run off to either side.  Fibre cement roof sheets are typically used that are attached to steel roof trusses.  Apex roof options include painted roof sheets in a choice of colours to complement your home.  Translucent roof sheets can also be fitted in Apex roofs to allow light to flood in.

The Banbury roof pitch is a steeper 25 degree roof that looks more traditional.  As standard, these steeper roof pitches feature granular steel roof sheets.  Guaranteed for up to 40 years, the granular steel roof sheets are available in a choice of 6 colours and are more durable yet just as attractive as traditional roof tiles.  These garage roofs are a traditional, fully lined roof with felt and batten construction.

Garages to suit you

Garages are now used as multi purpose buildings suitable for so many different things and used by so many different people.  This isn’t surprising when you see the amount of choice available from concrete sectional garages.

Prefabricated in nature, such garages are ideal for meeting multiple requirements as they can be configured in different ways rather than a rigid one type fits all policy.  A concrete garage can be wide or narrow, short or long, low or high, with a flat, apex or more traditional pitched roof and that is just for starters.

Once the size and shape is sorted then the style can be worked on to make this functional space look nice!  There is a massive choice of doors, both garage doors and personnel (side) acces doors - these are mostly available in steel (although cedar is a viable alternative) in various different finishes as well as different colours - choices include horizontal or vertical ribs, Georgian style or a wood grain effect.

A similar choice awaits with fascias.  Most garages include a timber fascia as standard, but upgrades are available to PVCu, woodgrain or cedar fascias.

The latest concrete garage industry initiatives surround the finishes available.  Long gone are the days when the spar pebble dash finish was the only choice.  Now garages are available in brick finishes or textured finishes in addition to the spar finish.

There is so much choice available, but one thing that never changes is that due to the many ways you can personalise your garage, there will be one that is right for you.

Concrete Garages - See Before You Buy

Modern technology has been embraced by some concrete garage manufacturers who now offer a wider choice of shapes, sizes and styles than ever before all at affordable prices

Brochures, leaflets and websites can only show the potential customer so much.  The true test of whether a new concrete garage design is right for the customer is to see before they buy at a local display of concrete garages.

There are hundreds of concrete garage display sites located throughout the UK.  Most of these will display a range of garage roof pitches including flat garages, apex garages and the more steeply pitched banbury garages.  A choice of finishes will also be shown, typically these will include the long established pebble dash or spar finish, brick finishes and textured finishes.

The number of garages on display will vary, with some smaller show sites exhibiting one or two and larger sites exhibiting over 30 garages to view.  To find your local display site check out Compton Buildings local agent finder that indicates those in your area with a display.  If your nearest agent does not have a display it is likely that they will be able to arrange for you to visit an existing customers garage to view.
