Concrete garages, sheds or outbuildings must be single storey with a maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres and maximum overall height of 4 metres with a dual pitched roof, or 3 metres in any other case.

The term original house means the house as it was first built or as it stood on 1 July 1948 (if it was built before that date).

If you’re looking for a brick garage make sure you consider Premier Brick from Compton as you could save yourself a lot of money, time and mess.

Compton’s Premier Brick garages look just like the real thing, but are in reality a concrete garage with a very impressive brick effect coating. The Premier Brick range of garages was produced in response to customer research that identified many people wanting a new garage next to their house would prefer a brick finish garage to the well established spar finish concrete garages.

Months of product development followed to ensure that the new range of brick effect garages would be suitable for the Compton brand that has been built on years of satisfying customers. Many finishes were tested and dismissed usually because they cracked - a common problem on non-Compton garages. However, a solution was found and was then put to the test by independent experts CERAM who commented that Compton’s exclusive solution was “A real advancement in the aesthetics and technical performance of prefabricated concrete panel system building”.

Compton’s Premier Brick Garage really does look like the real thing. All you miss is the hassle, mess and long timescales for building that are all too common with expensive brick garages. You simply won’t see any panel joint marks and CERAM’s intensive testing ensures it stands up to the closest scrutiny.

It’s now official - this winter has been the coldest for 30 years, with snow and ice affecting the whole of the UK at various points between December & February. However, concrete garages have still been delivered and installed with many customers experiencing the benefot of a new concrete garage immediately.

Not only is a concrete garage that vital place to store everything that is clogging up your house, it’s also an ideal place to put your car - especially in the snow and ice. Concrete garage owners have benefited from a few extra minutes in bed as they haven’t had to get up five minutes earlier to allow for the time needed to clear snow from the car and scrape ice of the windscreen.

Scientists are forecasting that our winters will become more extreme in the years to come. So why not order a new concrete garage now so that you will be prepared for the next batch of bad weather? Compton concrete garages are guaranteed for 10 years and will typically last for decades - during that time they will certainly be worth it just in terms of the extra time you could be spending under the warmth of a duvet.

Leading manufacturers of concrete garages will offer you a choice of different roof pitches that will provide you with an important decision to make as the choice of your garage roof pitch really does determine the look of your garage.

The Flat garage roof sometimes referred to as a Pent roof will feature a slight fall from front to back in order to drain rain water away. This is the most discrete roof but can be climbed onto easier than pitched roofs. Leading concrete garage manufacturers such as Compton will ensure your Flat garage roof is manufacture out of vandal resistant steel with an anti condensation coating applied to the inside.

Apex garage roofs are typically 12.5 degrees and use fibre cement roof sheets as standard. These tend to look slightly more traditional than flat roofs and enable you to choose other options such as coloured roof sheets or granular steel tiles.

The final option is a traditionally pitched 25 degree roof. This is only available from Compton Buildings and is called the Banbury roof. Fittingly the Banbury Garage roof is fitted with granular steel roof tiles as standard onto a traditionally felt lined and battened roof supports.

One of the main reasons thousands of customers choose sectional concrete garages is that they are cheaper than traditionally brick built garages. However, concrete garages can now look as good as the real thing!

There are so many options to transform the front of your concrete garage, so you can give it and your home added “kerb-appeal” - that added wow factor as you look at your garage and home from the road. Choosing the right garage door can make a big difference - choose from horizontally ribed, vertically ribbed or Georgian designs. Then think about the finish on your door - do you want to paint it yourself or would you like a maintenance free plastisol coating?

As well as choosing the door that looks right for you, there are a host of garage fascias to choose from - cedar, woodgrain, PVCu or plastisol coated steel are all offered as alternatives to a standard timber fascia. Then there are a choice of front posts either side of the garage door with the choice of sticking with a pebbledash finish that may match the rest of your garage or opting for one of the real brick front post options that best blends with the bricks used in building your house.

There are many options available when ordering a new concrete garage. It’s important to make the right decisions as the garage next to your house can transform the whole look of your home for decades to come. Make sure you take advice from a concrete garage expert - your local concrete garage agent can help as they will typically have supplied hundreds of garages in your area and can discuss various garage options with you to ensure you receive the garage will work for you!

Battery garages is the term used to describe rows or blocks of garages in quantities of 3 upwards. Extremely popular in the 1960s as a parking solution for tower block estates, these days battery garages are proving the ideal solution for keeping cars secured safely off the roads.

Normally situated away from homes, battery garages often require more security than regular domestic garages. The 1960s style “Marley garages” are still available, but the Marley Garages company has long since ceased trading. The modern equivalent are called Safeguard garages and they contain a series of security features designed to keep thieves out as well as being built in a durable manner that should last for decades.

In addition to the ever popular pebble dash finish, battery garages are also available in a complete brick finish or with brick front posts. Battery garage roofs don’t simply have to be flat, as the tile effect roof on Apex battery garages provides a more aestheticaly pleasing appearance.

Available in runs of side to side garages and back to back versions, battery garages make the best use of the available space. As the internal walls are shared, delivery is to one address and installation is carried out of several garages at the same time, the costs are reduced too - providing great value to the customer. Many customers can soon begin to think about making a profit back from their battery garages as they can be rented out to anyone looking for some valuable extra storage space. More information on battery garages can be found at Marshalls Sectional Buildings website.

If you’re looking for a new garage, then one thing you should remember is that size matters! Bigger is better.

Not only are vehicles bigger than ever before (think of all the MPVs and 4×4s out there) but space is seemingly at a premium in all but the biggest homes. The garage has become the saviour as it’s the ideal place to store everything you don’t want cluttering up the house. As well as extra storage space, a new garage can also be used as a home office, play room, utility room and workshop. Think of all the possibilities that more space could bring, then make sure your new garage is big enough to accomodate them.

A sectional garage is ideal, as “going large” simply requires adding more sections. Sectional garages are cost effective and rapidly installed avoiding all the mess and hassle that is often associated with traditional build.

Sectional garages are available in both concrete and timber framed formats with the recently launched Compton Ultimate Collection of timber framed buildings proving to be an excellent example of a modern sectional garage designed with multiple uses in mind and with the ability to include partitions to separate the building into different rooms. The Ultimate collection is also taller than most sectional garages this provides a feeling of added space together with the ability to accomodate 4×4s and MPVs thanks to its 2m door clearance height.

Sectional garage with added space
